The roots of Nakheel are founded in tourism and the leaders of Dubai’s great vision for the emirate’s growth. In the mid 1990s the Dubai government was looking to diversify its economy, and saw Dubai’s strength as a tourist destination with its year round sun, clear seas, and sandy beaches. Unfortunately with less than 70km of natural coastline, beaches were in short supply. This was the inspiration behind Nakheel’s waterfront developments which, together, have added hundreds of kilometers of new coastline to Dubai.

As symbols of Dubai’s progress and ambition these projects like Palm Jumeirah and The World are already becoming recognized internationally as 21st century icons to compare with some of the world’s best know and loved landmarks. These landmarks are also part of a bigger plan for the city of Dubai.

As Dubai’s premier master developer, Nakheel works to build the greater vision of Dubai as we develop sustainable communities for thousands of families in the city. We work closely with partners such as DEWA, RTA, RERA, and others to ensure that our developments integrate into the long-term plan for Dubai.

We achieved yet another milestone in realizing this vision when we welcomed the first passengers on to Palm Monorail. The trains now run between Gateway and Atlantis stations, with a capacity of 2,400 passengers per hour per day. Riders get the best view of Palm Jumeirah outside of a helicopter as they cruise along the elevated track. Developed by a consortium of leading international companies using state-of-the-art technology, Palm Monorail is the first of its kind in the Middle East. Palm Monorail serves the thousands of tourists that visit Palm Jumeirah every month and will eventually connect to Dubai Metro. Our coordination with RTA, Dubai Police and other regulatory bodies is critical to the smooth operation of Palm Monorail and its connection to Dubai’s transport infrastructure in the future.
